What To Do When You Get A DLL Error Message On Your PC:

Your Windows PC contains several DLL or Dynamic Link Library files that enable your programs, device drivers and the Windows operating system to function smoothly. DLL files are program files that are not required all the time by applications, but are accessed when required. You can say that the functions of DLL files are akin to books in a library. This is one of the reasons for these files being referred to as library files.

Programs of the past were not as large as they are now, and a single executable file was enough to run the program. However, with increasing complexity of software functions, software programs became larger and more intricate. And the intrinsic quality of DLL files to be swapped in and out of memory made them a welcome addition to modern software programs. This feature of DLL files enable large applications to run smoothly moderately powerful computers without using up most of the system resources.

Causes of DLL Errors

DLL files are most often stored in the Windows folder. However, there are some DLL files are stored in the program folders. There are different kinds of DLL files. Many of them are installed with the Windows operating system while some others are installed later along with applications and programs.

Hardware issues like a hard drive or motherboard problems, incorrect registry entries, obsolete drivers or multiple versions of device drivers and software programs may generate various DLL errors on your computer.

For example, DLL errors such as “xprt6.dll not found” or “cnxtsdk.dll error” are not very uncommon. Xprt6.dll is a file which is developed by AOL and is used for their AIM, ICQ and AIM applications. Sometimes, certain Peer-2-Peer software (P2P) also access this DLL file to perform specific tasks. Although it’s not an essential file, having Xprt6.dll is important for your AOL messengers to run. This file is often removed by certain spyware removing programs, which may result in the Xprt6.dll error. On the other hand, the cnxtsdk.dll is a file associated with modems with a Conexant chipset. So when you have a cnxtsdk.dll error, most likely your modem’s functionality will be hindered.

Methods to Fix DLL Errors

To fix DLL errors, first and foremost, you should scan your PC with a registry scanner. Most DLL errors are caused by invalid registry entries and therefore, can be easily fixed by running a registry repair tool.

If it doesn’t work, you should scan your PC with an antivirus program to ensure that the errors are not caused due to malware infections.

Also check the quarantine folder of your antivirus and antispyware tools. At times, legitimate DLL files are quarantined resulting in errors on your computer. You may also try to look for missing DLL files in the Recycle Bin.

If these steps do not resolve your DLL errors, it is best you reinstall the programs that are generating the errors. If nothing works, perform a system restore to revert your system settings back to the time it was free from any problems and errors.
